There are two kinds of people in this world: Givers and takers.

Despite the innuendo within that comment, I’m referring to energy in this instance. There are people who add energy when they enter a room and there are people who suck energy.

I have made a conscious effort to surround myself with energy givers. And I believe that givers attract other givers. Givers are creative. They are generous. And they believe that by giving, they leave room in their lives for goodness to come back to them.

Here is an analogy: Think of your life as a 1L container. If it is full to the top, there is no more room for more water. But, if you were to give 500mL to someone, then you have room for 500mL to come back to you. Get it?

I caught up with an amazing friend the other day. Whenever we do stuff together, I always have the best day. Her smile is infectious and was the motivation behind my smiles on billboards idea. We laugh, joke and come up with the most random ideas.

After our catch up, I was feeling charged. I was happy and energetic and was buzzing about things.

On the flip side, I had met up with a person a few days before who I felt was just draining the energy from me the whole time. I decided to spend less time with that person.

To their defense, a lot of people don’t know that they are takers. They have probably become that way over time and would be shocked to have it pointed out to them.

None-the-less, it is the givers who have a raft of friends. They are the first on the guest list and the last to leave the party. They would give their last dollar to someone they thought needed it more than them.

For mine, it is the givers who make the world a better place.
