Back in my early university days at Sydney Uni, a friend was running for Student Council. He had t-shirts made up to support his cause with a famous slogan:
“Form is temporary. Class is permanent”
And how true it is. I see examples of this all the time. There are people who come along and are merely a flash in the pan. Nothing more than a one hit wonder. No sooner are they on the scene than they are back to waiting on tables. Back to the minor leagues talking about that one chance they had.
Class however… Class is permanent. Every now and then you come across someone who is all class. You may have always suspected they are class, but not been sure. Then they do something. It may be a grand gesture or something very small. It doesn’t matter. They nail that one thing and you walk away wowed. Wowed by their class.
It is these people that I aspire to be like. The doers out there that do things without being asked or without the desire for accolades.
I read this quote the other day and it really resonated with me: “The smallest gesture is greater than the largest intent”.
And it all became clear. People in form have intent. People with class make gestures.
