Life is precious and can be taken away at any moment. If you need any proof of this, take a walk through your nearest emergency ward or intensive care unit. At some time or another, each one of those people has felt invincible. Each one of those people has put something off til tomorrow because they were lazy or unenthused. Each one of those people has wished away part of their life.
I’m sure you can relate to that last point: wishing away part of your life. It may be as simple as wishing it was 6pm and time to go home from work. It may have been a bit more adventurous and you wished it was the weekend already. Or perhaps you in fact wished away a few weeks until you go on holidays.
Each of those wishes fast tracks a bit of time and a precious part of your life. They are all opportunities for you to do something great with your life or to make a difference.
Now, I am well aware of my ‘big picture’ thinking. My attention to detail all too often lets me down. I think if I were to look inside my head I would see 75% right brain. But in recognising this in myself, I have also realised that too often I let small opportunities pass me by.
In wishing away time, you wish away experiences. You are wishing away life. In my hurry to get to the next level of everything in my life, I forget to slow down and enjoy the ride. The sights, tastes and smells that life presents me. These little bits are what make life so special.
It is so important to enjoy every moment of life, no matter how small it is. To look at every moment as a chance to make a difference.
We only get one go at this game and I worry if I spend it all wishing it away, before I know it I will be grey haired rocking on a balcony rueing opportunities past.
